Loopholes put leak in water act

Safe creeks, rivers hinge on new rule.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. With its issuance in 1972, Missourians were guaranteed not only peace of mind about healthy water but also a promise of clean water for future generations. Missourians depend on waterways for drinking water, fishing, swimming, recreation and economic vitality. And now, 40 years after the passage of the Clean Water Act, countless Missourians enjoy floating great rivers such as the Meramec and spending time with family and friends exploring Hinkson Creek and countless other lakes and streams.

Unfortunately, Missouri is far from having all of its waters safe for swimming, fishing and drinking.
